Ozark Bluestar is also know as Shining Bluestar, Showy Bluestar, Missouri Bluestar, and Swamp Bluestar. It features prolific clusters of star-like periwinkle blossoms, often bunched so tightly together that they appear as a much larger looking bloom. The blooms appear early in the season, and provide nectar for many butterflies and bees before most other food sources are available. In the fall the foliage turns a stunning golden hue, often keeping its leaves and color well past the first frost. Amsonia illustris is very tolerant of sun or shade, and tolerant of most soil conditions including gravel or clay. A USA native plant.

Height: 90cm, 36"

Hardiness zones
: 5-9

Location
: Sun or shade

Note: Ornamental use only. These seeds and/or plants may be poisonous.

Seeds per pack: 10

Germination: Sow the seeds just under the surface and water in. Leave them at room temperature for 4 weeks. This helps break the phytohormones which inhibit germination. They will not grow yet. Then a cooling period is required. Cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 6 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold-moist stratification period they are then brought back to a cool room (15-18C, 59-68F) for them to germinate. Germination can be erratic, generally 30-90 days after the warming period, though some can take longer.
