This is the variety used commercially, with an oval to oblong nut, 2.6-6 cm long and 1.5-3 cm broad. The nut has a buttery flavor and is commonly used in sweet desserts, especially as the main ingredient in pecan pies. It is native to south-central North America.

The pecan tree is a large deciduous tree, growing to 20-40 m (66-131 ft) in height, rarely to 44 m (144 ft).

These seeds are rare and are in limited supply.

Type: Hardy tree

Hardiness zones: 6-9

Seeds per packet: 3

Note: These seeds are large, and will have extra freight charges as they do not qualify as a regular bubble envelope and are consider a parcel rate.

Germination: Soak the seeds for 12-24 hours before planting. Sow the seeds just under the surface and water in. Then cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 90 days. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold-moist stratification period they are then brought back to room temperature (20-22 C, 68-72 F) for them to germinate. Germination is generally 30-90 days after the warming period, though some can take longer. Do not discard the planting tray, as patience is needed, and they are well worth the wait.
