Galium odoratum, Asperula odorata
SWEET WOODRUFF

Probably the most beautiful and easy to care for ground-cover available, Sweet Woodruff has dainty bright-green foliage, topped with lacy white flowers in spring and summer. Plants slowly creep to form a complete ground-cover, even in the driest and most poor soils, and even in acidic soils under evergreen trees. Plants never need watering, and will crown out weeds, yet easily allow taller plants and trees around them to continue to grow above them. We cannot say enough good things about this plant!

Very limited supply!

Type: Hardy perennial

Hardiness zones: 3-9

Height: 15cm, 6"

Location: Shade or part shade

Seeds per pack: 10

Germination: Sow the seeds just under the surface and water in. Leave them at room temperature for 5 weeks. This helps break the phytohormones which inhibit germination. They will not grow yet. Then a cooling period is required. Cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 80 days. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold-moist stratification period they are then brought back to a cool room (15C, 59F) for them to germinate. Germination is generally 30-90 days after the warming period, though some can take longer.
