The easiest of crocuses to grow, these lovely blue flowers are a shining silver-grey on the outside with bright yellow anthers. One of the best to naturalize as they will self-seed readily and also increase by offsets. They do very well in short grass, are extremely hardy. A welcome sight in late winter and early spring. They are also magnets for any insects that may be active so early in the year.

Type: Hardy perennial

Height: 13 cm, 5"

Location: Sun

Hardiness zones: 4-9

Note: Ornamental use only. Many plants have poisonous parts, these included. These seeds and/or plants are poisonous.

Seeds per pack: 5

Germination: Sow the seeds just under the surface and water in. Leave them at room temperature for 6 weeks. This helps break the phytohormones which inhibit germination. They will not grow yet. Then a cooling period is required. Cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 80 days. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold-moist stratification period they are then brought back to a cool room (15-18C, 59-68F) for them to germinate. Germination can be erratic, generally 30-90 days after the warming period for most seeds, though some can take longer.
