Description

Asarum caulescens, commonly known as coveralls or coveralls wild ginger, is native to large parts of central China, and also cultivated in gardens. It is a creeping evergreen perennial with glossy green, kidney shaped leaves with red flowers hidden by the leaves. It occurs mostly in deciduous forests, especially in humous soils.

A. caulescens is quite shade-tolerant and is often employed as groundcover where little else will grow.

These seeds are available for a very limited time (see below).

Type: Perennial

Hardiness zones: 6-9

Height: 10-15 cm, 4-6"

Location: Shade or part shade

Note: Ornamental use only. These seeds and/or plants are poisonous.

Seeds per pack: 10

Availability: These seeds are available for a very limited time. If these seeds are showing out of stock, we strongly recommend joining our wait list, as these seeds have a very shorty viability window (so we don't offer them for very long) and this helps ensure you get the freshest seeds possible! If they are available, they will only be available for a short time.

Germination: These seeds are trickier to germinate than the average perennial.  They should be sown in a warm compost (22 Celcius or 72 Fahrenheit) with constant humidity for 6 weeks.  After that period, they require cold stratification (-4 to 4 Celcius or 25 to 39 Fahrenheit) for 6-8 weeks.  Once the cold stratification is complete, slowly bring the temperature up to approximately 10 degrees Celcius (50 Fahrenheit) until germination begins.  If the seeds do not germinate on the first attempt, they likely require another warm then cold period to trigger germination.
