The Azores Spurge is critically endangered with only 20 known remaining mature individuals in the wild! It is an evergreen shrub with white-veined, thick, leathery blue-dark green leaves. The leaves are 3-6" long. During cold winters the leaves may turn to a brilliant crimson colour. The large flower-heads are yellow-green and are strongly honey-scented in spring and summer. The shrubs are often about 5' tall, though can grow up to about 33 ft (10m) tall in its native environment.

Scratch each seed between 2 layers of sand-paper, or on a rough stone or brick. Soak the seeds in warm water for 12-24 hours before planting. Sow just under the surface of the soil and water in. Then cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 6 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold stratification period they are then brought back to room temperature 20-22°C (68-72°F) for them to germinate. Germination is about 30-90 days after the warming period. Do not discard the planting tray, as patience is needed, and they are well worth the wait.
