Description

An impressive and hardy Gunnera tinctoria! This giant clump-forming perennial boasts impressive leaves that can grow to 8 ft across! In the early summer, it produces erect spikes of cone-shaped flowers, which can reach up to 3 ft in height. This plant is hardy to zone 7 and can tolerate a range of soil types, from sandy to clay, and acidic to alkaline. It prefers moist soil.

Type: Hardy perennial

Hardiness zones: 7-10

Location: Sun or part shade

Height: 3m. 10'

Seeds per pack: 10

Availability: If these seeds are showing out of stock, we strongly recommend joining our wait list, as these seeds have a very shorty viability window, and this helps ensure you get the freshest seeds possible! If they are available, they will only be available for a short time.

Germination: Start these seeds right away for best germination rates. Sow the seeds just under surface of the soil, and water in. A warm period of +25 to +30°C (77 to 86°F) is needed for about 4–5 weeks, which neutralizes the germination inhibition. A heat mat is useful.  They will not grow yet. Then cover them, and place in a fridge for 8 weeks. Keep lightly moist and do not let the soil dry out. Once the cold period is complete, they should be placed in a cool room (15C, 59F) until growing, and large enough to be planted outdoors.
