Description

Asclepias viridiflora, the short green milkweed, is known from much of the eastern and central United States from Connecticut to Georgia to Arizona to Montana, as well as southern Canada.

Asclepias viridiflora is an erect to ascending herb up to 50 cm tall, with distinctive greenish-white flowers. The pods lack the warts and tubercules common on other species of Asclepias.

The seeds of Asclepias viridiflora are rare to find, and are very limited.

As these plants are not as tall as many other milkweed, they can easily be blended into urban landscapes. We also offer many other types of Milkweed! View all seeds and combine shipping.

Type: Perennial

Hardiness zones: 3-9

Height: 50cm, 20"

Location: Sun or part shade

Note: Ornamental use only. These seeds and/or plants are poisonous.

Seeds per pack: 5

Germination: Start these seeds right away for best germination rates. Start indoors. Your planting container should have holes in the bottom for excess water to drain. Sow the seeds just under the surface of a sterile seed-start mix, and water in. Leave them at room temperature (20-22 °C, 68-72 °F) for 4 weeks. If they have not germinated after 4 weeks then a cooling period is required. Cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 4 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold-moist stratification period they are then brought back to a cool room (15C, 59F) for them to germinate. Germination can be 30-90 days after the warming period, though some will take longer.
