The Plumleaf Azalea is native to Georgia and Alabama, growing naturally along streams. With its stunning apricot or orange-red flowers that bloom in July and August, this deciduous species is a truly gorgeous sight to behold. Its attractive leaves can reach up to five inches in length.

Rhododendron prunifolium is one of the rarest azaleas found in the Eastern United States. It is a popular attraction in the Providence Canyon.

Location: Shade or part shade

Type: Hardy shrub

Height: 8-12', 2.5-3.6m

Germination: Rhododendron seeds have naturally low germination of about 30-40% for these seeds. Start these seeds right away to preserve viability, no matter the time of year. These seeds require light for germination. Surface sow the seeds on a sterile seed-start mix, and keep continually moist until plants germinate. Germinate at room temperature. Seeds germinate in about 6-8 weeks.
