Echinacea

Description

From June to September, fabulous these large white flowers with orange-brown centres appear on stiff stems. This white coneflower is shorter than many other varieties, making it a valuable addition to the middle of a border. Easy to grow and long-flowering, and will cope well with adverse weather conditions. Attractive to bees and butterflies, and birds will enjoy the seed heads.

This is a mid-sized Coneflower. We also offer 'White Swan' Coneflower which is a taller echinacea.

Type: Hardy perennial

Hardiness zones: 3-9

Height60-80cm, 24-32"

Location: Traditionally prefers full-sun locations, though we have plants in mostly-shady locations and they still bloom and do well.

Seeds per pack: 3

Germination: Start these seeds right away to preserve viability, no matter the time of year. These seeds require a period of cold. Sow the seeds just under the surface of a sterile seed-start mix, and water in. Leave them at room temperature for 2 weeks. They will not grow yet. Then cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 5-6 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold stratification period they are then brought back to room temperature for them to germinate. If possible, the best location for sowing in March, April and May, is in cold frame or a cold greenhouse where they will receive the cold period and fluctuating temperatures naturally.
