Description

At relatively unknown perennial, the Sun Rose, also called Rock Rose, is an excellent low-growing perennial, ideal for rock gardens, or at the front of the garden. Each flower resembles a small rose, and the colors are vibrant! This plant is low-maintenance, and is fairly drought tolerant. Plants almost resemble a Primrose (Portulaca), but unlike Portulaca, Sun Rose (Helianthemum) doesn't need to be replanted each season as Sun Rose are perennial and will survive the winter! An excellent perennial to grow!

Type: Hardy perennial

Height: 6-8"

Location: Sun

Hardiness zones: 4-9

Seeds per pack: 20

Note: Ornamental use only. These seeds and/or plants are poisonous.

Germination: Start these seeds indoors right away for best germination rates. Your planting container should have holes in the bottom for excess water to drain. Sow the seeds just under the surface of a seed-start mix, and water in. Leave them at room temperature (20-22 °C, 68-72 °F) for 4 weeks. They may be growing at this point. If they have not germinated after 4 weeks then a cooling period is required. Cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 4 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold-moist stratification period they are then brought back to a cool room (15C, 59F) for them to germinate. Germination can be 30-60 days after the warming period, though some can take longer.
