Eremurus robustus, the foxtail lily or giant desert candle, is an extremely tall plant with a stem 6–10 ft (1.8–3.0 m) high, and leaves as long as 48 in (120 cm) and 4 in (10 cm) wide, the widest in its genus. The deciduous leaves can vary from a bright green to a bluish-green in color. The flowers are white, some showing a light pink, as many as 700 to 800 of them, blooming in June. The Latin specific epithet robustus means “sturdy, growing strongly.
It prefers sandy, well-drained soil and full sun. In cultivation in the UK this plant has gained the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit.
These seeds are very rare and are in limited supply.

Germination: Sow the seeds just under the surface and water in. Leave them at room temperature for 4-5 weeks. This helps break the phytohormones which inhibit germination. They will not grow yet. Then a cooling period is required. Cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 6 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold-moist stratification period they are then brought back to a cool room (15-18C, 59-68F) for them to germinate. Germination can be erratic, generally 30-90 days after the warming period, though some can take longer.
