This species is native to the Appalachian Mountains in the eastern United States, spreading from southern New York to northern Georgia. Flame Azalea is highly sought after due to its striking colors and cold hardiness. It is one of the finest ornamental shrubs in the country! Flame Azalea is secure throughout most of its range, but is listed as endangered in Ohio.
