Pseudotrillium is known by the common name brook wakerobin, is endemic to the Siskiyou Mountains of southern Oregon and northern California. The Latin specific epithet rivale means “growing by streams, with reference to a preferred habitat.
Pseudotrillium rivale is a rhizomatous herbaceous perennial growing up to 20 cm (7.9 in) in height. Single nodding non-fragrant flowers have pink-blushed white petals up to 3 cm (1.2 in) long by 2 cm (0.8 in) wide. The plant flowers April to June (late March to early May at the higher elevations). After flowering, the entire plant may enlarge and become more robust and turgid with very glossy leaves.
Under its former name, Trillium rivale, this plant has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.

Availability: These seeds are available for a very limited time. If these seeds are showing out of stock, we strongly recommend joining our wait list, as these seeds have a very shorty viability window (so we don't offer them for very long) and this helps ensure you get the freshest seeds possible! If they are available, they will only be available for a short time.
Germination: Start these seeds right away to preserve viability, no matter the time of year. These seeds require a period of cold. Sow the seeds just under the surface of a sterile seed-start mix, and water in. Leave them at room temperature for 2 weeks. They will not grow yet. Then cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 5-6 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold stratification period they are then brought back to room temperature for them to germinate. The seeds should germinate within 3 months, though if no growth appears, the seeds can be returned to the fridge for a second cold period (3 months). If possible, the best location for sowing in March, April and May, is in cold frame or a cold greenhouse where they will receive the cold period and fluctuating temperatures naturally.
