Juneberry is also known as serviceberry or shadbush. It is a large deciduous flowering shrub or small tree. In spring it produces white star-shaped flowers. The leaves are coppery-red when they first open, maturing to a soft yellow-green, and transform into shades of red and orange in autumn. The plant's fruits are dark red when young, and become dark purple-black when ripe. The fruit are often eaten by birds. This shrub is highly prized for its ornamental value, and widely cultivated as an ornamental plant. It has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.

Soak the seeds for 12-24 hours before planting. Sow just under the surface of the soil and water in. First keep them at room temperature for 60 days. This helps break the phytohormones which inhibit germination. Then cover them with plastic to retain moisture, and then place in a fridge for 90 days. Be sure they stay lightly moist. Then bring them to approximately 21°C, 70°F for germination.
