Stemless gentian, short-stemmed gentian or trumpet gentian, is a loved dwarf, mat-forming perennial that slowly forms a spreading ground cover-like carpet. The showy dark blue flowers are each 2.5" long, and appear as upward-facing trumpets and sit directly on top of the narrow foliage.

Surface sow as light aids germination. Water the seeds in and leave them at room temperature (20°C/71°F) for 4 weeks. This helps break the phytohormones which inhibit germination. They will not grow yet. Then a cooling period is required. Cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 6 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold stratification period they are then brought back to a cool room (15°C, 59F) for them to germinate. Germination is generally 30-60 days after the warming period, though some can take longer.
