Description

A beautiful deciduous tree native to the southeastern United States. It produces large, fragrant, creamy-white flowers, up to 25cm in diameter. Large shiny leaves, up to 50cm long, grow in clusters at the branch tips, resembling an umbrella. The tree can grow up to 15m tall, and turns yellow in the autumn. The red fruit, up to 10cm long, contains several seeds. Easy to grow, shade tolerant, this tree is attractive and unique!

Type: Small tree or large shrub

Height: Up to 15m

Location: Sun or full shade

Hardiness zones: 5-9

Seeds per pack: 5

Availability: If these seeds are showing out of stock, we strongly recommend joining our wait list, as these seeds have a very shorty viability window, and this helps ensure you get the freshest seeds possible! If they are available, they will only be available for a short time.

Germination: It is very important to start these seeds right away to preserve viability, no matter the time of year. Soak the seeds for 24 hours before planting. Sow the seeds just under the surface of a sterile seed-start mix, and water in. Then cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 120 days. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold-moist stratification period they are then brought back to room temperature (20-22 °C, 68-72 °F) for them to germinate. Germination is generally 60-120 days after the warming period, though it can vary.
