Also called a Prairie Crocus, Pasque Flower is native to Canada and the USA. It bursts into bloom about a month earlier than most other native spring flowers, making it one of the earliest prairie plants to blossom. Its cold hardiness allows it to thrive as far north as the state of Alaska. Produces delicate-looking white blooms, followed by fluffy seed-heads. "Pasque," which means "passion," refers to the plant's habit of blooming around the time of Easter. Its unusual flowers, which resemble European crocuses, caused early European immigrants to give it the common name of prairie crocus. Once established, pasque flower plants can live for 50 years with more blossoms in each year of growth.
Type: Hardy perennial
Height: 20cm, 8"
Location: Sun or part shade
Hardiness zones: 1-8
Seeds per packet: 10
Sow just under the surface of the soil and water in. Then cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 6-8 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold stratification period they are then brought back to room temperature 20-22°C (68-72°F) for them to germinate. Germinates in 30-60 days after the warming period.
Ornamental use only. These seeds and/or plants are poisonous.
