SAGINA MOSS, SCOTTISH MOSS, PEARLWORT Subulata
Sagina subulata (heath pearlwort, Irish-moss, awl-leaf pearlwort or Scottish moss, a species of Sagina, native to Europe, from Iceland south to Spain, and east to southern Sweden and Romania. It occurs on dry sandy or gravelly soils.
Sagina subulata is commonly cultivated in walkways between paving stones.
Heath pearlwort is a low-growing prostrate perennial plant forming a thick, dense mat with stems less than 10 cm long, and slender subulate (awl-shaped) leaves up to 1 cm long. The flowers are 4–5 mm.

Germination: Obtain a container with holes in the bottom for water to drain, and a tray to place the container on. Pre-moisten the growing medium, which should be a sterile seed-start mix. Scatter the tiny seeds on the surface, and do not bury the seeds. Water the seeds in using a spray bottle, and keep at room temperature. A bright light is ideal, but not direct sun. It is very important that the soil remain lightly moist (not saturated) until the plants are established. The container can be covered with plastic to help retain moisture, and plastic should be removed once the seeds begin to grow. Watering can be done from a bottom tray, or with a spray bottle, as to not disturb the tiny seeds and emerging plants. Germination occurs in approximately 4-6 weeks.
