Description

Sky Blue Aster becomes smothered in a blanket of dainty blue flowers and provides a stunning beauty! A great source of pollen and nectar in the late fall. Works very well as a cut flower, or in dried flower arrangements. Adapts well to almost any area, from swamps to woodlands or prairies. This species formerly had the Latin name 'Symphyotrichum oolentangiense'.

Height
: 36", 90cm

Location: Sun

Type: Hardy perennial

Hardiness zones: 3-9

Note: Ornamental use only. May be poisonous.

Seeds per pack: 20

Germination: Start these seeds right away for best germination rates. Start indoors. Your planting container should have holes in the bottom for excess water to drain. These seeds require light to germinate. Sow the seeds on surface of a sterile seed-start mix, and water in. Do not bury the seeds. Leave them at room temperature (20-22 °C, 68-72 °F) for 4 weeks. If they have not germinated after 4 weeks then a cooling period is required. Cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 4 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold-moist stratification period they are then brought back to a cool room (15C, 59F) for them to germinate. Germination can be 30-60 days after the warming period, though some will take longer.
