BLUE SPIKED SPEEDWELL Veronica spicata
This beautiful Speedwell has vibrant blue spikes of flowers on compact plants that reach just 14" tall! Speedwell are easy to care for, and reliable plants for a sunny location. Plants are perennial, and will return each year without replanting.
Type: Perennial
Height: 14"
Location: Sun
Hardiness zones: 4-9
Bloom time: Summer
Seeds per pack: 20
Germination: Your planting container should have holes in the bottom for excess water to drain. For best results, obtain a sterile seed-start mix, and place the seeds on the top of the pre-moistened growing medium (not buried). Lightly press the seeds so that they are flush with the surface of the soil. Keep moist until germination, which can take about 3 weeks. You can cover the container with clear plastic if you wish, to retain moisture until germination. Watering can be done from the top with a spray bottle, or from the bottom tray, as to not disturb the seeds. Once seeds emerge, place the pot in a sunny place, or under bright grow lights.
Note: As with many perennials, these seeds can benefit from a period of cold, which may improve germination rates (optional). If you are doing this, once you have planted your seeds, place the container in a cold place (but not freezing) for 3-4 weeks. Then place them at room temperature to germinate.
