Description

Antennaria parlinii is a North American flower plant known by the common name Parlin's pussytoes. It is widespread across eastern and central Canada and eastern and central United States, from Manitoba to Nova Scotia south as far as Texas and Georgia.

Antennaria parlinii grows up to 45 centimetres (18 in) tall. White flowers bloom April to June, with 4 to 12 or more flowerheads on a cluster at the top of the stems. The common name refers to the resemblance of the flowers to the toes of a cat. A. parlinii is very similar to the species Antennaria plantaginifolia (plantain leaf pussytoes), although the flowers of A. parlinii" are larger.

It grows in dry, rocky areas in full sun to partial shade. It prefers acid soil.

Type: Hardy perennial

Hardiness zones: 3-9

Height: 18", 45cm

Seeds per pack: 10

Germination: Start these seeds right away to preserve viability, no matter the time of year. These seeds require a period of cold. Sow on the surface of a sterile seed-start mix. Do not bury the seeds as they require light for germination. Water gently, or from a bottom tray. Then cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 5-6 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold stratification period they are then brought back to room temperature for them to germinate. If possible, the best location for sowing in March, April and May, is in cold frame or a cold greenhouse where they will receive the cold period and fluctuating temperatures naturally.
