This hardy perennial is native to parts of Europe, Asia and North America, growing well in rich, moist, well-drained soils. Typically found in meadows, bogs or the margins of forests. Blooms from July to September with white flowers which are suitable for cutting.

Surface sow as light aids germination. Water the seeds in and leave them at room temperature (20°C/71°F) for 4 weeks. This helps break the phytohormones which inhibit germination. They will not grow yet. Then a cooling period is required. Cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 6 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold stratification period they are then brought back to a cool room (15°C, 59F) for them to germinate. Germination is generally 30-60 days after the warming period, though some can take longer.
