Description

Adenium multiflorum is small, succulent tree, typically 0.5-3 m tall. The flowers, which appear in winter, are typically 5-petaled and are generally deep red and white, though can be shades of pink, white, or bi-color. The two-capsuled fruits contain long, grooved, hairy brown seeds.

Sometimes called the impala lily, A. multiflorum requires full sun and excellent drainage. It is extremely drought tolerant. Though frequently used as a bonsai plant indoors, it may be grown outside in USDA hardiness zones 10 and 11.

It is a poisonous species of flowering plant. Adenium multiflorum produces a sap in its roots and stems that contains cardiac glycosides. This sap is used as arrow poison for hunting large game throughout much of Africa and as a fish toxin.

Adenium multiflorum is a popular houseplant and bonsai in temperate regions. It requires a sunny location and a minimum indoor temperature in winter of 10 °C (50 °F). It thrives on a xeric watering regime as required by cacti. Adenium multiflorum is commonly propagated by seed.

This plant has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.

Seeds per pack: 5

Availability: These seeds are available for a very limited time. If these seeds are showing out of stock, we strongly recommend joining our wait list, as these seeds have a very shorty viability window (so we don't offer them for very long) and this helps ensure you get the freshest seeds possible! If they are available, they will only be available for a short time.

Germination: Start these seeds indoors right away for best germination rates. Obtain a container with holes in the bottom, to allow water to drain. Use a mix of 50:50 compost/soil and sand. Place the seeds just under the surface of a growing mix, and water them in. These seeds grow in temperatures of 25°C-29°C (77-84F). A heat mat can be helpful. It is very important to keep the soil moist until germination, and do not let the soil dry until the plants are formed. The seeds generally germinate in 10-30 days. After germination the heat mat is no longer required.
