Description

The pinkshell azalea or pinkshell rhododendron is a beautiful deciduous shrub with large bell-shaped flowers in clusters of 5-7, rose-colored, that bloom in the spring before leaves appear. Native to North Carolina, and grows well in much of North America. It grows best in slightly moist acid soil and features a red fall color. In the wild, it grows near bogs and streams.

Location: Sun or shade

Type: Hardy shrub

Height: 5m, 17'

Hardiness zones: 5-7, possibly zone 4

Note: Ornamental use only. These seeds and/or plants may be poisonous.

Seeds per pack: 30

Germination: Rhododendron seeds have naturally low germination of about 30-40% for these seeds. Start these seeds right away to preserve viability, no matter the time of year. These seeds require light for germination. Surface sow the seeds on a sterile seed-start mix, and keep continually moist until plants germinate. Germinate at room temperature. Seeds germinate in about 6-8 weeks.
