Description

Cymbopogon nardus, common name citronella grass, is a species of perennial aromatic plant from the family Poaceae, originating in tropical Asia. It is the source of an essential oil known as citronella oil, which is widely used for its natural insect-repelling properties. Essential oils are extracted from the aerial parts and applied topically or slowly burned (e.g. in a "citronella candle") as an insect repellent, particularly to deter haematophagous insects such as mosquitoes. It is very easy to grow in warm temperate and tropical climates.

Height: 1.5-2.5m, 4-8'

Type: Hardy perennial in zones 10-12, or Lemongrass is often grown as an annual in cold climates.

Seeds per pack: 15

Germination: Place the seeds just below the surface of the soil. Keep in a dark room or cupboard. Seeds should germinate in 10 to 28 days. Maintain a lightly moist, not wet, environment. Once seedlings appear move them into full sun or under strong artificial light.
