Fritillaria persica is native to southern Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine and Israel, and is naturalized in Italy. It is widely cultivated as an ornamental plant in North America and much of the World.
Fritillaria persica is a robust bulbous perennial growing 60-90 cm (24-36 in) tall. Each plant may bear up to 30, conical, narrow, bell-shaped flowers, up to 0.75 in (1.9 cm) long, ranging in colour from deep purple to reddish brown.

Note: This plant family is known to have toxicity. The ingestion of these seeds or this plant can cause serious illness or death.

Sow just under the surface of the soil and water in. Leave them at room temperature for 4 weeks. This helps break the phytohormones which inhibit germination. They will not grow yet. Then a cooling period is required. Cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 6 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold stratification period they are then brought back to a cool room (15-18C, 59-68F) for them to germinate. Germination can be erratic, generally 30-90 days after the warming period, though some can take longer.
