This wild strawberry is native to Canada and in the United States (including Alaska). Fragaria virginiana strawberries are small, delicious, and rich in vitamin C. An easy-to-grow perennial plant. Prefers a fertile, well-drained soil and a sunny location, though can tolerate semi-shade. This wild strawberry was used to hybridized to create the modern domestic garden strawberry.

Type: Hardy perennial

Hardiness zones: 2-9

Height: 8", 20cm

Location: Full sun

Seeds per packet: 10

Germination: Sow the seeds just under the surface and water in. Leave them at room temperature (20-22 C, 68-72 F) for 4 weeks. If they have not germinated after 4 weeks then a cooling period is required. Cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 4 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold-moist stratification period they are then brought back to a cool room (15C, 59F) for them to germinate. Germination can be 30-60 days after the warming period, though some can take longer.
