Discover the rich history and cultural significance. This cactus has been used by the monks of a pre-Inca culture known as Chavin in their ritualistic ceremonies to diagnose spiritual links to a patient's illness. Its active compound, mescaline, has been reported to be present in a concentration of 1.2% in the dried cactus, and it also contains varying phenethylamines and other substances in minimal proportions. Today, Curanderos or medicine men of northern Peru still use it for spiritual and medicinal purposes. A close relative of the San Pedro cactus.
Height: It can grow up to 3-6 meters tall, with stems up to 8-18 cm in diameter.

Seeds per packet: 8
Obtain a container with holes in the bottom, to allow water to drain. Use a mix of 50:50 compost/soil and sand. Surface sow as light aids germination. Water the seeds in. These seeds can grow in temperatures of 21C-29C (70-84F), average about 26C (79F), or a heat mat can be helpful. It is very important to keep the soil moist until germination, and do not let the soil dry until the plants are formed. Watering can be done from a bottom tray, as not to disturb the seeds. The seeds generally germinate in 2-6 weeks, with warmer temperatures towards the quicker end of that range.
