Description

Trillium undulatum is a perennial herbaceous plant. Flowering occurs from late April to the end of June. The single has three petals with wavy edges and a central red to reddish purple area at the base of the flower.

The natural range of Trillium undulatum extends Canada, to much of the united states.

Canada: New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec

United States: Connecticut, Georgia, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia.

As of October 2019, Trillium undulatum is globally secure. It is vulnerable (or worse) in at least seven U.S. states. In particular, it is endangered in both Ohio and Michigan.

The leaves should not be consumed by humans.

These seeds are available for a very limited time (see below).

Type: Very hardy perennial

Height: 25 to 45 cm, 10-18"

Location: Part sun or part shade

Hardiness zones: 3-8

Seeds per pack: 5

Availability: These seeds are available for a very limited time. If these seeds are showing out of stock, we strongly recommend joining our wait list, as these seeds have a very shorty viability window (so we don't offer them for very long) and this helps ensure you get the freshest seeds possible! If they are available, they will only be available for a short time.

Germination: Start these seeds right away to preserve viability, no matter the time of year. These seeds require a period of cold. Sow the seeds just under the surface of a sterile seed-start mix, and water in. Leave them at room temperature for 2 weeks. They will not grow yet. Then cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 5-6 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold stratification period they are then brought back to room temperature for them to germinate. The seeds should germinate within 3 months, though if no growth appears, the seeds can be returned to the fridge for a second cold period (3 months). If possible, the best location for sowing in March, April and May, is in cold frame or a cold greenhouse where they will receive the cold period and fluctuating temperatures naturally.
