An ideal plant for hot dry areas including the rock garden! Bright purple flowers followed by plum-like fruits. Blooms in spring and early summer.
Native to Canada and USA, it grows primarily in the Great Plains, prairies, pastures, limestone out-croppings and rocky open woods. It is also known as Buffalo Plum, Milkvetch and Pomme De Prairie.
These seeds are rare and in limited supply.
Type: Hardy perennial
Hardiness zones: 2-8
Height: 20", 50cm
Location: Sun
Seeds per packet: 5
Scratch each seed between 2 layers of sand-paper, or on a rough stone or brick. Sow just under the surface of the soil and water in. Then cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 21 days. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold stratification period they are then brought back to room temperature 20-22°C (68-72°F) for them to germinate. Germination is about 30-90 days after the warming period. Do not discard the planting tray, as patience is needed, and they are well worth the wait.
Ornamental use only. These seeds and/or plants are poisonous.
