CANARY ISLAND DATE PALM Phoenix canariensis
This attractive palm is commonly planted as an ornamental plant, especially in areas with Mediterranean climates and mild oceanic climate. When neatly pruned, the bottom of the crown, also sometimes called the nut, appears to have a pineapple shape. It has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.

Germination: Sow into a well-drained sandy compost at any time of the year, and cover thinly with sand or grit and kept moist. Keep at between 20-25C. Seeds sometimes germinate within 4 to 6 weeks although some may take very much longer so patience is required.
