Other common names include Hardy Ageratum, Wild Ageratum or Blue Boneset. It was formerly classified as Eupatorium coelestinum. The plants are native to North America.

Mistflower resembles a blue-purple fog! The disk flowers form in clusters of 35-70 at the tops of stems in late summer and autumn, attracting many butterflies!

Insects that feed on Eupatorium species (Bonesets) may also use Mistflower as a host plant, and include the Clymene Moth, the Lined Ruby Tiger Moth, and the Three-Lined Flower Moth.

After overwintering, the plants can be late to emerge in the spring in northern climates.
