Description

Drumstick Primula flowers are unique, in that they form balls of flowers on tall stems! Primulas are one of the first perennial to bloom in the spring, and blooms are tolerant of the cold frosts. Grow plants in part . They are ideal for planting under deciduous trees that allow sun to pass through in the spring before the leaves emerge, and later provide during the hot summer. Colors include red, pink, blue, purple, yellow and white.

Type: Perennial

Height: 10"

Location: Shade or part shade

Hardiness zones: 4-8

Seeds per pack: 20

Note: Ornamental use only. These seeds and/or plants are poisonous.

Germination: Start these seeds right away for best germination rates. Start indoors. Your planting container should have holes in the bottom for excess water to drain. These seeds require light to germinate. Sow the seeds on surface of a sterile seed-start mix, and water in. Do not bury the seeds. Leave them at room temperature (20-22 °C, 68-72 °F) for 4 weeks. If they have not germinated after 4 weeks then a cooling period is required. Cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 4 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold-moist stratification period they are then brought back to a cool room (15C, 59F) for them to germinate. Germination can be 30-90 days after the warming period, though some will take longer.
