Description

One of the most sought-after Trilliums! Forms giant plants up to 22" (55 cm) tall! Flowers are deep red. Foliage is brilliantly mottled!

Like all trilliums, its parts are in groups of three, with 3-petalled flowers above whorls of pointed triple leaves. The leaves contain calcium oxalate crystals and crystal raphide, and should not be consumed by humans.

These seeds are available for a very limited time (see below).

Type: Hardy perennial

Hardiness zones: 6-10

Location: Shade or part shade

Seeds per pack: 5

Availability: These seeds are available for a very limited time. If these seeds are showing out of stock, we strongly recommend joining our wait list, as these seeds have a very shorty viability window (so we don't offer them for very long) and this helps ensure you get the freshest seeds possible! If they are available, they will only be available for a short time.

Germination: Start these seeds right away for best germination rates. These seeds need a series of cold periods to break dormancy. Keep the seeds moist for this entire time. Your planting container should have holes in the bottom for excess water to drain. Sow the seeds just under the surface of a sterile seed-start mix, and water in. First keep them at room temperature for 3-4 weeks. This helps break the phytohormones which inhibit germination.  Then cover them with plastic to retain moisture, and then place in a fridge for 6-8 weeks. Then bring them to a cool room (+5 to +12°C, 41 to 54°F) for 4 weeks. They will not likely be growing yet. If they are not growing they will need a second cold period, cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for another 6 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold-moist stratification period they are then brought back to a cool (15C, 59F) room for them to germinate. Germination is in 30-90 days after the warming period, sometimes longer.
