Caesalpinia pulcherrima is a species of flowering plant native to the tropics and subtropics of the Americas. Common names for this species include poinciana, peacock flower, red bird of paradise, Mexican bird of paradise, dwarf poinciana, pride of Barbados. It is an upright shrub, sometimes small tree, able to grow up to 3 - 6 m tall and with a spread of 2 - 4 m wide.

Caesalpinia pulcherrima is the most widely cultivated species in the genus Caesalpinia. It is a striking ornamental plant, widely grown in domestic and public gardens in warm climates with mild winters, and has a beautiful inflorescence in yellow, red, and orange. It tolerates pruning well allows it to be planted in groups to form a hedgerow; it can be also used to attract hummingbirds.

Height: 3-6 meters

Hardiness zones: 8-11

Seeds per pack: 10 large seeds

Germination: Start these seeds indoors right away for best germination rates. Obtain a seed-start mix. Sow the seeds just under surface of the soil, and water in. Keep lightly moist and do not let the soil dry out. These seeds grow in temperatures of 25°C-29°C (77-84F). A heat mat can be helpful. Seeds germinate in 30-60 days. Once growing they should be placed at 20-22 °C, 68-72 °F.
