Description

Aethionema grandiflorum, also known as Persian Stonecress is a great addition to many rock gardens.  It thrives in limey conditions, creating a bushy, spreading ground cover.  It was awarded the 'Award of Garden Merit' from the Royal Horticultural Society.  It's a great pollinator plant that produces many light purple blossoms reaching up to 20cm and will attract all sorts of honey and bumble bees.  Drought tolerant, grows well in full sun conditions.  Prefers dry, well-drained, rocky, limey areas.

Hardiness zone: 5-8

 Seeds per pack: 10

Germination: Start these seeds indoors right away for best germination rates. Your planting container should have holes in the bottom for excess water to drain. Sow the seeds just under the surface of a seed-start mix, and water in. Leave them at room temperature (20-22 °C, 68-72 °F) for 4 weeks. They may be growing at this point. If they have not germinated after 4 weeks then a cooling period is required. Cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 4 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold-moist stratification period they are then brought back to room temperature. for them to germinate. Germination can be 30-60 days after the warming period, though some can take longer.
