Primula capitata, commonly known as the round-headed Himalayan primrose or Asiatic primrose is a species of flowering plant in the family Primulaceae. Its flowers are long, dark purple and tubular, with shallowly lobed petals; they are borne in racemes that form flattened spheres, held on white-mealy stems about 40cm (16 inches) high.

In the wild, Primula capitata is found in moist habitats in alpine areas of Bhutan, Tibet, and Sikkim state in India.

Type: Hardy perennial

Height: 40cm, 16"

Location: Shade or part shade

Hardiness zones: 4-8

Seeds per pack: 25

Note: Ornamental use only. These seeds and/or plants are poisonous.

Germination: Start indoors. These seeds require light to germinate. Sow the seeds on surface and water in. Do not bury the seeds. Leave them at room temperature (20-22 °C, 68-72 °F) for 4 weeks. If they have not germinated after 4 weeks then a cooling period is required. Cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 4 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold-moist stratification period they are then brought back to a cool room (15C, 59F) for them to germinate. Germination can be 30-90 days after the warming period, though some will take longer.
