Description

This is a rare white form of the tall perennial lobelia, which is most commonly has blue flowers. The flowers are held on tall flower spikes and look quite elegant. The plants are very cold hardy, especially compared to red lobelia varieties, and will return year after year reliably. Tolerant of many soil types including poor dry soils. Blooms appear in late summer and into fall, when few other plants are in bloom. Hummingbirds love them!

Type: Hardy perennial

Height: 24"

Location: Part sun or shade

Hardiness zones: 3-9

Seeds per pack: 15

Note: This plant species is known to have toxicity.

Germination: Start these seeds indoors right away for best germination rates. Your planting container should have holes in the bottom for excess water to drain. These seeds require light to germinate. Sow the seeds on surface of a sterile seed-start mix, and water in. Do not bury the seeds. Leave them at room temperature (20-22 °C, 68-72 °F) for 4 weeks. If they have not germinated after 4 weeks then a cooling period is required. Cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 4 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold-moist stratification period they are then brought back to a cool room (15C, 59F) for them to germinate. Germination can be 30-60 days after the warming period, though some will take longer.
