Paeonia tenuifolia is a herbaceous species of peony that is sometimes called the fern leaf peony. The leaves are finely divided into almost thread-like segments and grow close together on the stems. This peony can reach 30-60 cm (12-24 in) in height. The scented red flowers have numerous yellow stamens in the center.
These seeds are really good germinators, as we have tested them ourselves! They very-much need the cold stratification mentioned in the germination information below, and then a cool start, or they will not grow. They take some time, but are really good growers with this procedure, and with such a rare plant, they are a gem to grow from seeds!

Sow just under the surface of the soil and water in. Then cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for a full 3 months. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold stratification they are then brought back to a cool room (12-15°C, 54-62°F) for them to germinate. They do not like warm temperatures at this stage, and until they have their second set of leaves. Germination is irregular over a long period of time, generally 1-4 months, but some can take longer. Do not discard the planting tray, as patience is needed, and they are well worth the wait.
Ornamental use only. May be poisonous.
