Native to North America. Iris setosa is suitable to be grown in the garden border, on the sunny edge of a woodland garden, or in a bog garden. It often grows in moist or wet soils, though it can adapt to various conditions, including partially dry conditions if there is part shade.

In mild temperate areas, the leaves are evergreen, (surviving the winter). But it is best to tidy up the plant and trim the leaves back before the winter, then in spring, new leaves will emerge.
