The Honey Locust tree is a popular and beautiful ornamental tree. It tolerates urban conditions, compacted soil, road salt, alkaline soil, heat, clay and drought. The fast growth rate make it valued in areas where shade is wanted quickly.
Height: 30-70 feet at maturity
Hardiness zones: 2-9, and some reports hardy down to zone 1
Seeds per packet: 10
These seeds need to be scarified prior to sowing. File or sand through the outer seed coat. Plant in a sterile seed-start mix and keep at 20-22°C (68-72°F). No cold stratification is required. Generally seeds germinate anywhere from 1 to 3 months, but some stragglers can take up to a year.
