The plants are tolerant of many conditions including poor soil, and tolerant of drought once established.

Lead Plant is one of the larval hosts of the Dog Face Sulphur butterfly, also known as Southern Dogface. It also attracts many others butterflies, moths, bees and other beneficial insects.
