Calyptridium umbellatum, synonym Cistanthe umbellata, is known by the common name Mount Hood pussypaws, or simply pussy-paws. Calyptridium umbellatum is native to western North America from British Columbia to California to Colorado, where it grows in a number of habitat types, including areas inhospitable to many other plant types, such as those with alpine climates.

It is a perennial forming basal rosettes of thick, spoon-shaped leaves each a few centimeters long. The flowers form a dense, spherical umbel of rounded pink flowers.

Type: Hardy perennial

Hardiness zones: 7-10

Height: 10cm, 4"

Location: Full sun

Seeds per pack: 10

Germination: Sow the seeds just under the surface and water in. Leave them at room temperature (20-22 °C, 68-72 °F) for 4 weeks. If they have not germinated after 4 weeks then a cooling period is required. Cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 4 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold-moist stratification period they are then brought back to a cool room (15C, 59F) for them to germinate. Germination can be 30-60 days after the warming period, though some can take longer.
