2Solidago nemoralis is native to North America, where it is widely found in Canada and the United States. Its common names include gray goldenrod, gray-stem goldenrod, old-field goldenrod, field goldenrod, prairie goldenrod, dwarf goldenrod, and dyersweed goldenrod.
One of the smaller goldenrods, with spreading flower heads, and fits well into garden landscapes. Flowering occurs in summer and fall. In the wild it grows in forests, woods, prairies, grasslands, and disturbed areas such as old fields and roadsides.
The flowers have a variety of insect pollinators, including honey bees and butterflies, and is often used in butterfly gardens.
