Vernonia gigantea, also known as giant ironweed, or tall ironweed, is s native to the United States and Canada. The plants are up to 2.1 metres, 7' tall. The flowers open over a long period from summer to late fall, and are deep-purple in colour. They are excellent for providing a focal point at the back of the garden, and also for naturalizing meadows and open woodlands. Ironweed are very attractive to many pollinators!
