A large flowering species ideal for the garden, meadow or native gardening plantings. Owl's claws, orange sneezeweed, and yerba del lobo it is native to the western United States, and has been found from Arizona, New Mexico, and central California north as far as Montana and Oregon.
It is an erect perennial herb blooming from July to September. The plants bear several flower heads up to 7.5 cm (3 in) wide and has a center of tiny disc florets fringed with orange ray florets.
Hymenoxys hoopesii is formerly known as Helenium dugaldia or Dugaldia hoopesii.
