Prickly wild rose, prickly rose, bristly rose, wild rose or Arctic rose is a species of wild rose with distribution in northern regions of North America (both Canada & USA), Europe and Asia. Its native habitats include thickets, stream banks, rocky bluffs, and wooded hillsides.

The fragrant flowers are pink (rarely white) and 3.5–5 cm diameter.  Young flowers are darker in colour. 

The hips are red and 10–15 mm diameter. The fruit is usually elongated. The hips, which stay on the plant through winter.

Larger stems are usually densely covered with straight prickles. 

This native rose species of the northern Great Plains is the provincial flower of Alberta. Since 1983 Rosa acicularis has been pictured on licence plates in the Canadian province of Alberta.

Type: Very hardy shrub

Hardiness zones: 2-6

Height: 3-7', 0.9-2.1m
