Description

Extremely elegant pink flowers are so easy to grow! We've had large patches of these perennials for many years, and they never fail to amaze us with blooms each summer, which last into fall. They can be grown in sun or and are tolerant of many soils. Because of their versatility, we use them in our difficult shady spots, but they will bloom even more prolifically in sunny locations. The flowers are pretty pink, held high above the foliage. The flower pollen is a favorite food of the endangered bumble bee - it is fun to watch them spin around the center of the flower, circling and collecting pollen on their back legs!

These seeds are in very limited supply.

Common Names: Anemone hupehensis, Japanese Anemone, Thimbleflower, Thimbleweed, Japanese Windflower

Type: Hardy perennial

Hardiness zones: 4-8

Height: 36-48"

Location: Sun or shade

Seeds per pack: 15

Note: Ornamental use only. These seeds and/or plants are poisonous.

Germination: Start these seeds right away for best germination rates. Your planting container should have holes in the bottom for excess water to drain. Sow the seeds just under the surface of a sterile seed-start mix, and water in. Leave them at room temperature (20-22 °C, 68-72 °F) for 4 weeks. If they have not germinated after 4 weeks then a cooling period is required. Cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 5-6 weeks. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold-moist stratification period they are then brought back to a cool room (15C, 59F) for them to germinate. Germination can be 30-90 days after the warming period, though some will take longer.
