Scilla mischtschenkoana, the Mishchenko or Misczenko squill, early squill or white squill, is a perennial with 2-3 strap shaped leaves and pale blue flowers with darker veins, blooming in early spring or late winter. Plants reach 5 to 15 cm (2.0 to 5.9 in) high and approximately 5 cm (2.0 in) wide, and form large drifts. A choice plant for early spring blooms in the perennial garden. S. mischtschenkoana has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.

Type: Hardy Perennial

Location: Sun or part shade

Hardiness zones: 4-8

Height: 15cm, 6"

Note: Ornamental use only. These seeds and/or plants are poisonous.

Seeds per pack: 10

Germination: Sow the seeds just under the surface and water in. Leave them at room temperature for 5 weeks. This helps break the phytohormones which inhibit germination. They will not grow yet. Then a cooling period is required. Cover them with plastic and place in a fridge for 80 days. Be sure they stay moist. After the cold-moist stratification period they are then brought back to a cool room (15-18C, 59-64F) for them to germinate. Germination is generally 30-90 days after the warming period, though some can take longer.
